Cinema Aqeel .. An idea started in a small place, confined to the presence of 40 people, to grow up today and is preparing to open its first fixed showroom, and the first independent screen in the UAE.
When we talk about alternative cinema, were talking about culture, identity and so on. Its a big challenge in a city where commercial cinema is dominated, says Buthaina Kazem, one of the project founders.
The idea began years ago, when Buthaina always wondered why she could watch Arab or international films in Berlin, Cannes or Paris, while she could not see them in her hometown, Dubai. It is a principle that if the wrong thing is lost, Buthaina begins work on a platform to display these films, completing this year its fourth year.
Buthaina most prominent advice for anyone who has the idea to create his own business, especially in the cultural field, is to start a small, viable project and have a clear idea of the project and its legacy. The entrepreneur should not only have a commercial purpose but a moral addition to his project .
