Established in 1799 to protect the city, it was restored in 1970 and rebuilt from original construction materials. It was officially inaugurated after the restoration of Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum on May 12, 1971 as a museum of Dubai preserving its history and heritage and is now an integrated museum of heritage life in Dubai.
